On average, Girls miss six days of class each month due to shame surrounding their periods or lack of sanitary products. This contributes to the number of girls in India who drop out of school each year, around 23 percent. Dropping out of school means increased chances of child marriage, early pregnancy, anaemia, increased gender disparity, and the list goes on. Lack of awareness makes for a major problem in India’s menstrual hygiene scenario. Nearly 60,000 cases of cervical cancer deaths are reported every year from India, two-third of which are due to poor menstrual hygiene.
